Case brief
RBI cancelled the licence of Brahmawart Commercial Co-operative Bank Ltd., Kanpur, with effect from the close of business on July 3, 2018. The bank has also been barred from conducting banking business and liquidation proceedings are to follow.
Impact
The bank must cease all banking operations immediately, including taking deposits and repaying deposits outside the liquidation/DICGC process. Depositors will be paid according to the DICGC Act, subject to the ₹1,00,000 insurance ceiling, and the registrar is expected to begin winding-up proceedings.
