Case Brief
The Reserve Bank of India, acting under Section 45-IA(6) of the RBI Act, 1934, cancelled the Certificate of Registration of 54 companies. Why RBI Acted
In exercise of powers under Section 45-IA(6) of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934, RBI cancelled the Certificate of Registration (CoR) of 54 companies listed in the release. The order states that, as a result, these companies shall not transact the business of a Non-Banking Financial Institution as defined in Section 45-I(a) of the RBI Act, 1934.
Operating Impact
All 54 listed companies lose their ability to operate as NBFCs and must stop NBFC business activities. Customers and counterparties dealing with them for financial intermediation services are affected immediately from the cancellation order dates stated against each company.
