Case Brief
In exercise of powers under Section 45-IA(6) of the RBI Act, 1934, the Reserve Bank of India cancelled the Certificate of Registration of 135 companies listed in the press release. The release names each affected company and states that, following cancellation, these entities shall not transact the business of a Non-Banking Financial Institution as defined in Section 45-I(a) of the RBI Act, 1934.
Why RBI Acted
The Reserve Bank of India cancelled the Certificate of Registration of 135 companies under Section 45-IA(6) of the RBI Act, 1934. The listed entities span multiple locations, but the release does not provide individual grounds for cancellation for each company. As a result of the cancellation, the affected companies are no longer permitted to carry on the business of a Non-Banking Financial Institution as defined in Section 45-I(a) of the RBI Act, 1934.
Operating Impact
All 135 listed companies lose their RBI registration to operate as NBFCs and must stop transacting NBFC business. This affects the companies directly and may also impact customers, counterparties, and creditors dealing with them as financial institutions.
