What Happened
By order dated April 24, 2026, RBI imposed a monetary penalty on Janakalyan Sahakari Bank Limited, Mumbai for non-compliance with directions on ‘Exposure Ceiling to Group Borrowers’. RBI said the bank breached the prudential exposure limit prescribed for group borrowers in certain instances, based on supervisory findings from its statutory inspection as of March 31, 2025. The penalty was imposed under Section 47A(1)(c) read with Sections 46(4)(i) and 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, after considering the bank’s reply, additional submissions, and oral submissions at the personal hearing.
