Why RBI Acted
In exercise of powers under Section 45-IA(6) of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934, RBI cancelled the Certificate of Registration of 36 named companies. The order means these entities can no longer carry on the business of a Non-Banking Financial Institution as defined in Section 45-I(a) of the RBI Act, 1934.
Severity Assessment
Cancellation of CoR is a licensing action that fully prevents the affected NBFCs from operating as non-banking financial institutions, which maps to severity 5.
Impact
All 36 affected companies must stop NBFC activities immediately and cannot legally carry on non-banking financial business. Customers and counterparties should no longer treat them as registered NBFCs.
