What Happened
The Reserve Bank of India imposed a monetary penalty of ₹2 lakh on The Berhampur Co-operative Urban Bank Limited, Odisha, by order dated February 11, 2026. RBI said the bank had not complied with certain directions on ‘Exposure Norms and Statutory/ Other Restrictions - UCBs’. After a statutory inspection and issuance of a show-cause notice, RBI concluded that the bank had breached the prudential inter-bank (gross) exposure limit and the inter-bank counter-party limit. The penalty was imposed under Section 47A(1)(c) read with Sections 46(4)(i) and 56 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
