Case Brief
What Happened
RBI, by order dated September 23, 2025, imposed a monetary penalty of ₹50,000 on The Tamil Nadu Circle Postal Co-operative Bank Ltd., Tamil Nadu. The bank was found to have failed to comply with specific RBI directions issued under the Supervisory Action Framework (SAF), specifically by offering interest rates on deposits higher than those offered by State Bank of India. RBI issued a show-cause notice, considered the bank’s reply and oral submissions, and then sustained the charge and levied the penalty under the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
