What Happened
The Reserve Bank of India imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 25 lakh on Andhra Bank by order dated December 05, 2019. RBI concluded that the bank had not complied with certain provisions of its directions on KYC Norms / AML Standards and Opening of Current Accounts. The action was taken under the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, after a complaint-led examination, issuance of a show-cause notice, consideration of the bank’s reply, and a personal hearing.
